Varnam Input Tool (വർണ്ണം/वर्न्म)
An easy input method to type Indian languages on desktop, web and mobile
Repository Video ▶️“Varnam” is an open source, cross platform transliterator for Indian languages. It's an easy way to type Indian languages on desktop. It's been 7 years since its inception, but has so many areas where it can be improved and used well. Personally, we've been using the software to type Malayalam on GNU/Linux desktop but it can be put to wider reach. The software is basically unmaintained now. Our goal is to revamp it. It's a full FOSS replacement to Google's Input Tools, Microsoft's Bhaasha Input Tool.
With this hackathon, we aim to :
Make a web editor for Varnam
Easy installation & usage of Varnam on Linux distros
Improved support for more languages
A local frontend GUI for managing Varnam, import new corpus, export, adding words etc.
Varnam Editor for Mac OSX & Windows (Windows is a high priority)
